PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellent method for bonding rubber to a nickel-plated steel cord, which is difficult to bond to rubber though it is excellent in corrosion resistance. SOLUTION: In this method, a nickel-plated steel cord is treated with a treating agent containing a sulfur-containing silane coupling agent and then is embedded in an unvulcanized rubber, and the unvulcanized rubber is vulcanized. Preferably, the treating agent contains an acid. The sulfur-containing silane coupling agent is preferably bis-(3-triethoxysilylpropyl) tetrasulfide.
