PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the continuation of operation without damaging wash and without attaining an unstable state when much of the wash is put into a washing/spin-dry basket at the time of feeding water to the washing/spin-dry basket while rotating the tank at a low speed with a washing machine which lessens the damage and entanglement of the wash at the time of washing and removes dirt by the effective action of the washing water. SOLUTION: The inside bottom of the washing/spin-dry basket 2 which is freely rotatably disposed within an outer tank 1 is freely rotatably provided with agitating vanes 3. The washing/spin-dry basket 2 and the agitating vanes 3 are driven by a motor 7. The output signal from a water level detecting means 10 for detecting the water level in the washing/spin-dry basket 2 is inputted to a control means which controls strokes by controlling a water feed valve 12 for feeding the water into the washing/spin-dry basket 2 and the number of revolutions of the motor 7. The control means stops the rotation of the washing/spin-dry basket 2 and feeds the water when the motor 7 is detected to be overloaded at the time of feeding the water while rotating the washing/ spin-dry basket 2.
