PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively remove precipitate in a rotary cylinder by putting cleaning solids into the cylinder, supplying a cleaning solution into the cylinder, rotating the cylinder, and discharging the precipitate together with the solution in an apparatus in which the precipitate on the inner wall of the cylinder is removed outside. SOLUTION: During the operation of a horizontal shaft tubular type centrifugal separator, cleaning solids 12 and a cleaning solution are mixed in a cleaning solid tank 20 and supplied into a rotary cylinder 1. After a cleaning solid layer is formed, slurry is supplied continuously from a raw liquid tank 22 into the cylinder 1. When the accumulation of solids reaches a prescribed level, the supply of raw liquid is stopped, and an apparatus for rotating the cylinder 1 is stopped. The drop of the cleaning solids 12 from the upper part of the cylinder 1 is started, and precipitate on the inside of the solid layer is dropped together with the solids 12. After that, by supplying the cleaning solution from the tank 22 into the cylinder 1 while the cylinder is rotated, the precipitate and the solids 12 are discharged from a discharge opening.
