<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a time required for detecting the accurate position of an information code, and for decoding data based on an information code existing region by estimating the existing region of the information code on a picture data memory. SOLUTION: A picture region is divided like matrix so that inspection areas can be set, and the change of brightness and darkness is detected based on a brightness and darkness pattern outputted along a main scanning line in each inspection area. The number of the changed points of the brightness and darkness is compared with a prescribed value, and the array chart of the inspection areas having a prescribed value or more and the inspection areas having less than the prescribed value is prepared (the parts applied with hatched lines are defined as the inspection areas having the prescribed value or more in a figure (a)). In this case, a retrieval area group being a first candidate close to the center of the picture region and with a large area is estimated as the existing region of an information code. When an inspection line is set in the estimated inspection area group, a solid line pattern L1 at the outer periphery of a two-dimensional code 101 can be immediately found, and the code existing region can be calculated.</p> |
