PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly open and close a gate continuously without affecting the traffic of vehicles even when a power failure occurs suddenly in a crossing gate. SOLUTION: An auxiliary electric motor 22 is provided in addition to a main electric motor 16 driven with an AC power for opening and closing a crossing bar 14. The auxiliary electric motor 22 is driven with a battery 24 at power failure. An extension shaft part 18b extending an output shaft 18 of the main electric motor 16 rearwards is connected to an output shaft of the auxiliary electric motor 22 through an electromagnetic clutch 48 so that they can be disengaged from each other. During power failure, the output shaft of the auxiliary electric motor 22 is connected to the extension shaft part 18b by the electromagnetic clutch 48, and its drive force is transmitted to the output shaft 18 of the main electric motor 16 by the driving of the auxiliary electric motor 22 so as to raise or lower the crossing bar 14 continuously.
