PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device and a display method capable of improving general image quality by utilizing human visual characteristics and statistical properties of an image signal positively, and restricting resolution information content of a display image if necessary. SOLUTION: When a single field comprises three subfields SF1-SF3, the subfield SF1 is assumed as an uppermost subfield having the largest luminous weight and the subfield SF3 as the lowermost subfield having the smallest luminous weight. In the lowermost subfield SF3 out of the subfields SF1-SF3, an address process in an address controlling period 21 is conducted simultaneously at (n) lines (n is an integer of 2 or more), and the address controlling period 21 has a length of 1/n of an address controlling period 20 for address-processing of every line of the other subfields SF1, SF2 so that the address controlling period 21 is shortened. The shortened time is allotted to sustained periods 31, 32, 33 of the subfields SF1, SF2, SF3.
