PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent lamp having symmetric luminous intensity distribution east and west and an symmetric luminous intensity distribution north and south, and to provide a fluorescent lamp suitable for a rectangular room. SOLUTION: This fluorescent lamp is equipped with an arc tube 10 having an inner surface painted with a phosphor 11. Electrode parts 12 are formed on both end parts of the arc tube 10. The arc tube 10 is bent so as to pass the longitudinal center part 19 of the arc tube 10 between the both electrode parts 12 to form a S-shape. A base 20 to cover the both electrode parts 12 is provided. A cavity 29 to allow the longitudinal center part 19 to pass through is formed at the center of the base 20.
