PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a melting furnace which can be increased in size easily in order to increase processing capacity. SOLUTION: A main chamber 5 having a ceiling part 1 mounting a combustor 2 and a floor part 3 having a sludge outlet 4 is provided, on the outer circumferential part thereof, with an annular storing section 6 communicating with the main chamber 5 and depositing a matter to be treated such that it can be fed to the main chamber 5, and means for taking out the matter to be treated from the storing section 6 and supplying the matter to the main chamber 5. A plurality of supply units 10 having forced downward carrying power are distributed in the circumferential direction at the storing section 6 above the supply opening 7 to the main chamber 5.
