PURPOSE: A device for reproducing a digital video signal is provided to combine a background picture with a special effect picture by adding to a reproduced video signal. And the device enables text information to be combined with a reproduced video signal, for reproducing. CONSTITUTION: A video memory(140) stores background pictures. A selector(150) selects a video signal read from the video memory(140) or a video signal inputted from an external device. A combiner(120) combines the background pictures read from the video memory(140) or the video signal inputted from the external device with a decoded video signal, during a video signal decoding process, for outputting. The background pictures stored in the video memory(140) are capable of being changed by the video signal inputted from the external device.
