PURPOSE: A method for controlling a tempo of a video disk player is provided to vary a bit rate for reading data from a video disk. And the method is provided to control the increase or decrease of a final output of an audio signal due to a high or low speed of disk play with a reference level. CONSTITUTION: A rotation speed of a disk is controlled, according to a high or low speed play mode. Data reproduced in a high or low speed play mode are decoded. The decoded data are temporarily stored in a memory. The memory and a data storage amount are monitored, to control a data output of the memory according to the generation of underflow or overflow. And the decoded audio signal is controlled with a reference level.
