PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical disk medium recording/reproducing device utilizing the CLV system, which is capable of executing the seek operation independently of the operation for controlling the number of revolution of the disk. SOLUTION: In a central control unit 1, the presently positioned zone of a pickup 11 is detected by the position detecting signal from a position detector 12, and the distance between track marks of the present adjacent tracks is calculated based on the track mark information detected by a track mark detecting circuit 7, and the transfer direction of the pickup 11 is decided from the present track information on the pickup 11 and the objective address, and the driving of a transfer motor 14 by a pickup driving control circuit 2 is repeated up to the position attained to the objective track of the pickup 11. This series of the process is carried out independently of the CLV made setting control of a disk rotating motor 8 made by a disk rotation driving control circuit 3, then the execution of seek operation of the pickup 11 is allowed in the short time without waiting the completion of the CLV mode setting control of the optical disk 10.
