APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR TRANSMITTING GATED CHANNELS IN CONTROL ONLY SUBSTATE OF CODE DIVISION MULTIPLE ACCESS COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM

PURPOSE: An apparatus for transmitting gated channels in a control only substate of a code division multiple access(CDMA) communications system is provided to gate and transmit reverse dedicated physical control channel(DPCCH) signals in half power control group units and to locate power control bits in final slots of each frame to control power of a first slot of a next frame, so as to minimize time for being taken in a synchronization re-acquisition process and to minimize interference increases caused by consecutive transmissions of the reverse DPCCH signals and by reverse power control bit transmissions toward a forward link. CONSTITUTION: If user data for being transceived for a regular time is not generated in a user data active substate for transceiving the user data by using a dedicated data channel, a gated transmission controller of a mobile station performs a state transition to a control only substate. The gated transmission controller regularly or irregularly gates and transmits reverse dedicated physical control channel(DPCCH) signals with half slot units within one frame cycle. The gated transmission controller corresponds to reverse gated transmission patterns to gate forward DPCCH signals, according to forward gated transmission patterns. If the user data in the user data active substate is not generated, a gated transmission controller of a base station performs a state transition to a control only substate. The forward DPCCH signals are gated and transmitted with half slot units in the control only substate.
