PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically install host function on an AV network in one unit by mutually detecting the equipment management devices of the other node and stopping the host function of a self-node. SOLUTION: Hardware and software in an equipment are initialized with the supply of power from CS-STB5. Thus, a 1394 interface bus 9 is reset and it waits for the completion of a bus reset processing in a whole network system. When the bus reset processing is completed in the whole network system, node ID are allocated to all equipments. In CS-STB5, eight are connected to the 1394 interface bus 9 with the specification of IEEE1394-1995 and the node ID of it itself can be learnt to be zero, for example.
