PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a heat developable photosensitive material for a photoengraving process, particularly for a scanner and an image setter having a good state of the coated surface and excellent in photographic properties, particularly preservability by specifying the pH difference at a prescribed temperature between coating solutions for all adjacent layers on the image forming layer side of a substrate. SOLUTION: The heat developable photosensitive material has an image forming layer containing a nonphotosensitive organic silver salt, photosensitive silver halide and a reducing agent on the substrate and two or more non-image forming layers on the image forming layer. The pH difference at 25 deg.C between coating solutions for all the adjacent layers on the image forming layer side is <=3. A smaller pH difference is preferable but the pH difference is usually about 2.0-2.5. The adjacent layers do not include the undercoat layer of the substrate and the non-image forming layers include a protective layer disposed on the image forming layer, a middle layer disposed between plural image forming layers and a middle layer disposed between such constituent layers.
