PURPOSE: A linear compressor is provided to allow the lubricating oil to be supplied in an easy and convenient manner by forming a lubricating oil groove within a piston assembly. CONSTITUTION: A linear compressor comprises a main body(300); a lubricating oil tank(350) installed beneath the main body and which stores lubricating oil; a cylindrical outer stator(310) installed within the main body and which is wounded with a coil(312) at a predetermined position; a cylinder(305) spaced apart from an inner periphery of the outer stator so as to have an air gap(362) formed between the cylinder and the outer stator, and which has a cylindrical portion(315) arranged from a top toward a center of the cylinder; and a piston assembly constituted by a circular plate(320a), a main body(314), and a piston(320). The main body of the piston assembly is formed integrally with the circular plate, and disposed within the air gap in such a manner as to move vertically. The main body has at an intermediate portion thereof an integrally formed permanent magnet(330), and at an interior thereof a lubricating oil pipe. The lower portion of the main body is dipped into the lubricating oil tank. The piston is protruded downwardly from a bottom surface of the circular plate, and installed to be movable into the cylindrical portion of the cylinder. When the coil is applied with a current, the piston assembly reciprocates vertically by an electromagnetic interaction between the coil and the permanent magnet. As a result, the lubricating oil stored in the tank is supplied to an inner wall(360) between the piston and the cylindrical portion of the cylinder.
