PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for controlling variable data length in a DSP(Digital Signal Processor) is provided so that a DSP core can update an input data length value without the necessity of executing the ISR(Interrupt Service Routine) in case that an external host varies the length of transmitting data. CONSTITUTION: If a signal is inputted to a variable data length information transmission status pin PLEN(330), a parallel port(300) recognizes the data inputted to an input/output data pin PD(151) as variable data length information and updates an input data length storing register length(126) by the input data. Accordingly, even though a DSP core(110) doesn't carry out the ISR, input data length information can be updated. Thereby, the processing speed of the DSP can be improved.
