PURPOSE: A device for detecting location of an elevator car is provided to improve reliability and efficiency of an elevator through correcting location of the elevator car in returning from power breakage. CONSTITUTION: A location detecting device for an elevator car(212) is formed by a motor(206) driving the elevator car; a driving unit(204) driving the motor; a first pulse encoder(205) generating a pulse signal according to rpm(revolutions per minute) of the motor; a steel tape(218) attached to the elevator car for rotating tape cars(216,219) according to elevation of the elevator; a second pulse encoder(217) generating a pulse signal according to rotation of the tape car(216); a fixed point detect switch(214) attached on a hoistway wall(211) for outputting a fixed point signal by the elevator car reaching a floor; a location detect sensor(221) detecting absolute floor of the elevator car; a car location detect unit(222) receiving an output pulse of the location detect sensor for counting absolute floor of the elevator car; and an elevator control unit(201) deciding speed of the elevator car while deciding moving distance of the elevator car. Moreover, the elevator control unit controls operation and speed of the elevator through deciding the absolute floor of the elevator car.
