发明名称 Process for improving the wear-resistance of textile materials
摘要
527,761. Treating textiles with liquids. TOOTAL BROADHURST LEE CO., Ltd., CORTEEN, H., FOULDS, R. P., POTTER, H., and BATTYE, A. E. Jan. 13, 1939, Nos. 10442/39, 13603/40, 13604/40, and 13605/40. Divided out of 527,762. [Class 15 (ii)] The wear resistance of textile materials is increased by impregnating them with a solution or dispersion of a synthetic rubber-like material which is resistant to discolouration on exposure to air and also with synthetic resin components or an intermediate condensation product thereof applied during or after impregnation with the rubber-like material, and insolubilizing the resin by heat, the resin being present in a smaller proportion by weight than the rubberlike material. The rubber-like material may be polymerized vinyl acetylene, butadiene, or isobutylene, or a polyacrylic or polymethacrylic ester, polyvinyl acetate or chloride, polyvinyl alcohol, a polyvinyl ether or acetal, or polystyrene. Polymerized chlor-butadiene, which tends to become discoloured on exposure to air, is excluded. The polymer may be used in aqueous dispersion or in an organic solvent. The synthetic resin may be a urea-formaldehyde, phenol-formaldehyde or glycerine-phthalic anhydride resin. The presence of the synthetic resin counteracts the tendency of any wax, fat, or oil, in the textile materials to prevent the rubber-like material from, imparting the desired increase in wear-resistance. The synthetic resin may be present in sufficient proportion to impart resistance to creasing. The treated textile materials may be further treated with cellulose ethers. In an example, cotton fabric is impregnated with an aqueous solution containing "Igeplast" E (Registered Trade Mark) emulsion, and "Bedafin" (Registered Trade Mark) which is a glycerine - phthalic anhydride - urea - formaldehyde resin, rendered soluble in water by adding a little triethanolamine. The fabric is squeezed so that it retains about its own weight of liquor. It is dried and then heated to insolubilize the resin. The fabric is boiled in a solution of soap and sodium carbonate. In another example, a linen fabric is impregnated with an aqueous emulsion containing "Igeplast" E (an alkyl alkacrylate). It is dried and then passed through a solution containing an intermediate condensation product of urea and formaldehyde with tartaric acid as catalyst. The fabric is dried and then heated to insolubilize the resin. It is boiled in a solution of sodium carbonate containing a wetting agent. It is treated with caustic soda solution and allowed to shrink in warp and weft. The fabric is crease-resisting and has a high wear-resistance. Specifications 486,926 and 527,762 are referred to.
