PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a thermal efficiency of a rotary furnace and to heat a front end part and the whole of a steel material by the same furnace by providing a groove in a ring state along a peripheral edge of a hearth on an inside surface of a peripheral wall, circulating a hot air blow into the groove from a tangential direction by a burner reversely to the rotation of the hearth, and then exhausting it from an exhaust opening of a ceiling to an exterior. SOLUTION: A furnace body is constituted of a cylindrical peripheral wall 1 and a ceiling 2, and a hearth 3 is rotatably driven by a driver 11 in the body. Pushers 4, 5 driven by air cylinders are penetrated through two positions of the wall of the furnace. The pusher 4 for charging a steel material sequentially inserts steel materials A conveyed by a conveyor 13 into the furnace, and radially places the materials on the hearth 3. The rear end of the material A is projected into a groove 7. The pusher 5 for taking out the material drops the material A on the hearth 3 in a central chute hole 6 of the hearth 3 to deliver the material to next step. The groove 7 is provided in a ring state along a peripheral edge of the hearth 3 at an inside face of the wall 1. A burner 8 blows a circulating hot air reversely to the rotation of the hearth from a tangential direction.
