摘要 PURPOSE: A high-speed motion vector estimation method is provided to reduce a calculation amount by calculating a candidate motion vector, determining another candidate motion vector using a motion vector correlation of peripheral blocks, and estimating a motion vector with regard to a search region determined according to plural candidate vectors. CONSTITUTION: Two candidate motion vectors are selected by performing a whole search operation with regard to a search region after lowering a resolution(101,102). After establishing two candidate motion vectors with regard to the search region, motion vector information of stored peripheral blocks is read out and one candidate motion vector is chosen using a motion vector correlation of the read peripheral blocks(103,104). If three candidate motion vectors are selected, a resolution is adjusted(105). After adjusting the resolution, a search region is determined as a block having a predetermined size with the center of the three selected candidate motion vectors and a candidate having a mean absolute error value is selected by performing a whole search operation with regard to each of the three determined search regions(106,107). A final motion vector is calculated by determining as a search region a block having a predetermined size and performing a whole search operation with regard to the determined search region(108,109).
