PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for treating image when aspect ratio of receiver is different in a broadcasting signal is provided to display an image without changing a picture ratio of a broadcasting signal through the broadcasting signal is different from an aspect ratio of a receiver. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for treating an image when a broadcasting signal is different from an aspect ratio of a receiver comprises an inputting portion(54) for selecting a channel and an information source, a channel selecting portion(50) for selecting a plurality of information sources according to a desired control signal, a displaying portion(52) of which a screen is divided to simultaneously display signals respectively having a different information source, and a controlling portion(56) for comparing a picture ratio of an input broadcasting signal with an aspect ratio of a receiver and then displaying the broadcasting signal if the picture ratio of the input broadcasting signal is different from the aspect ratio of the receiver and also display other program in a remaining space. In the apparatus, the controlling portion provide a selecting image for selecting a program to be displayed in the remaining space to a TV viewer.
