PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnetic recording medium large in S/N at a low production cost. SOLUTION: This magnetic recording medium is produced by forming a first underlaid film 2 containing at least Co or Cu and P on a nonmagnetic substrate 1, a second underlaid film 3 consisting of Cr as a principal component and nonmagnetic materials on the first underlaid film 2, a magnetic film 5 on the second underlaid film 3. In this medium, the nonmagnetic substrate 1 contains any of glass, carbon and silicon, the surface of the second underlaid film 3 faced to the first underlaid film 2 is subjected to oxidation treatment and the surface of the first underlaid film 2 is subjected to texture treatment. |
