PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a passing vehicle detecting method capable of detecting a travel direction of a vehicle, also confirming the passing of the vehicle two times and also eliminating the deficiency of a passing vehicle detecting method using a loop coil. SOLUTION: A flux gate 1 is provided at the side of a road 2, the direction of the gate 1 is adjusted so as to generate a high voltage change area where one of optionally selected output voltage Vx of the gate 1 of when a vehicle 3 passes makes change that exceeds an output voltage Vn of the gate 1 of when a vehicle does not pass and a low voltage change area where the voltage Vx makes change that falls below the voltage Vn, the voltage Vx is inputted to a detection circuit 4 to detect which is first outputted between voltage exceeding the threshold voltage Va of the high voltage change area and voltage falling below the threshold voltage of the low voltage change area Vb, and it is detected that the vehicle passes through two fixed positions and the travel direction of the vehicle is also detected according to the two detection.
