PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the method for forming a good photographic image superior in whiteness and restrained from occurrence of a reversed reversal negative image by the color diffusion transfer system. SOLUTION: The photosensitive silver halide grains in an emulsion are prepared so as to have composite structures having an iodine content in the silver halide phase formed on the surface of each silver halide grain higher than that in the silver halide phase in the inside of each silver halide grain, and an average iodine content in the total grain particles is <1.0 mol%, and the total iodine amount fed into the silver halide phase formed on the surfaces of the silver halide grains is 0.005-0.3 mol% of the total silver halide grains of the internal latent image type direct positive silver halide grains, and the color diffusion transfer photographic element contains a compound represented by formula I and it is processed by a processing composition containing a compound represented by formula II as a developing agent, and in formulae I and II, (n) is 1, 2, 3, or 4; X is an H or halogen atom; R1 is an aryl group: each of R2-R5 is an H atom or an alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, or aryloxy group.
