PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic endoscope system that can cope with an APL fluctuation due to amplitude fluctuation of a video signal caused by a contrast of an object photographed by a CCD without extending the dynamic range and surely eliminate even a sag. SOLUTION: A clamp circuit 50 clamps an image pickup signal received from an output section of a CCD 10 via a power consumption reduction means in order to reduce the power consumption of the output section of the CCD 10 for a non-read period of the image pickup signal from the CCD 10 to a prescribed reference potential for a period other than the non-read period under the control of a control circuit 21 and the electronic endoscope system processes a video signal on the basis of the clamped image pickup signal.
