PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state image pickup device, which can obtain an image good in color reproducibility by individually controlling the charge storage times of photoelectric converting elements for pixels of respective colors so that white balance is kept, and to provide a signal processing method therefor. SOLUTION: This control method has a preparatory test photographing process for detecting the amounts of electric charges corresponding to the intensity of light by the colors by generating and accumulating electric charges in the photoelectric converting elements for a specific charge storage time, an arithmetic process for individually calculating the charge storage times of the photoelectric converting elements of the respective colors according to the amounts of electric charges corresponding to the intensity of light by colors detected by the preparatory test photographing process so that white balance is kept, and a primary photographing process for generating and accumulating the electric charges of the photoelectric converting elements by individually controlling the charge storage times of the photoelectric converting elements of the respective colors by an electronic shutter and a mechanical shutter.
