PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical pickup small in size, high in optical utilization efficiency, high in the degree of freedom in design, and superior in mass- productivity and machining precision. SOLUTION: The optical pickup device includes a stem 8, a semiconductor laser 1 which is a light source provided on the stem 8, a cap 9 for covering the stem 8, a light transmitting substrate 4 attached onto the cap 9, a half wavelength plate 3 installed on the substrate 4, a beam splitter 2 attached onto the plate 3, a collimator lens 10 and an objective lens 11 for converging the light emitted from the semiconductor laser 1 on a magneto-optical recording medium 12, and a photodetector 7 which is arranged on the stem 8 and which detects light reflected from the medium 12 split by the beam splitter 2. The beam splitter 2 is constituted of a first member 15 made of an isotropic optical material and a second member 14 made of an anisotropic optical material. |
