PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the arrangement of prisms having a void or space in a composite prism for color separation and synthesis, and to obtain a color separation composite prism or the like which avoids problems of registration misalignment. SOLUTION: In the composite prism for color separation and synthesis consisting of first to third prisms 3, 4, 5 to separate colors into R light, G light and B light from the source light by using dichroic films, the second face of a first prism 3 and the first face of the second prism 4, and the second face of the second prism 4 and the first face of the third prism 5 are joined all over the joining faces with at least adhesive layers to integrate the first, second and third prisms into one body.
