PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a linear actuator whose screw shaft is not turned but is operated for making only translation movement, by forming a turning block unit on a casing and whose size is reduced. SOLUTION: A linear actuator has a hollow shaft 8 which is supported by a casing 5 having a stator 1 with bearings 6 and 7 therebetween a screw shaft 10 which is coaxially provided in the hollow shaft 8 and can be moved freely in the axial direction with a screw 9, and a turning block unit 21 which is engaged with the flat surface 10a of the screw shaft 10. The screw shaft 10 is operated for making only translation movement.
