PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the black frame, even in a halftone image and to eliminate it by reading an original in a character mode, successively reading it in a photographic mode, detecting a black frame area of the periphery of the original in the character mode, fetching an image obtained by reading the original in the photographic mode and replacing the detected area with a white image as the black frame area. SOLUTION: A binarization mode image processing part 3 converts an image signal into a binarized signal of white and black, and a black frame detecting part 4 detects a black frame of an original periphery from the binarized signal. The part 4 performs conversion with a black part as '0' white pixels and with the effective parts of an original as '1' black pixels as the detected results. Thus, a photographic image whose size is small, etc., is read in a character mode in which the black frame area is easily detected, the black frame area is determined, converted into white pixels and stored, and next the image is read in a photographic mode and combined with the stored data. |
