PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation apparatus for a vehicle which can avoid traffic controls, traffic jams or the like even without using a route guide function. SOLUTION: A section detection means 4 obtains an intersection ahead an advance direction of the vehicle from the present position of the vehicle obtained from a present position detection means 2 and map data of the periphery of the present position of the vehicle which is read out from a map data memory means 1. A section traffic information detection means 5 detects only traffic information present up to the intersection obtained by the section detection means 4 from traffic information received by a traffic information receiver means 3, and obtains a travel time to the intersection. A route search means 21 automatically obtains a recommended route from the present position of the vehicle to the intersection obtained by the section detection means 4. Then, a travel time difference detection means 31 compares the travel time obtained by the section traffic information detection means 5 with a travel time for the recommended route. When the travel time for the recommended route is shorter by a predetermined time or more while an error in calculating the travel time or the like is taken into account, a character display is made to a screen of a display means 7. |
