INSTRUCTION SELECTION IN MULTIPLATFORM ENVIRONMENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To construct a compiler having an instruction selector in a multiplatform environment by selecting an instruction to be compiled on the basis of the execution cost of an instruction selected by an embedded instruction selector and compiling the selected instruction with the embedded instruction selector. SOLUTION: A multiplatform compiler system 100 is provided with a compiler constructor 102 arranged so as to construct a platform dependent compiler while using a platform designation architecture descriptor and an instruction predicate. The platform designation architecture descriptor takes the form of an architecture description language. The instruction predicate takes the form of a Boolean style and enables only the instruction to be executed together with an instruction selection code embedded in the platform designation compiler. The instruction predicate is used by the compiler constructor 102 and a compiler capable of preferentially selecting the instruction enabled by a user- defined instruction predicate is constructed.
