MULTI-PATH ASYNCHRONOUS TRANSFER MODE SWITCH AND CELL STRUCTURE

PURPOSE: A multi-path asynchronous transfer mode(ATM) switch is provided to use each buffer as one sharing buffer by a distributor so as to perform a switching process at a high speed, and to distribute cells by the distributor to evenly distribute traffic so as to improve a delay time capacity. CONSTITUTION: A distributor(1) and an arbiter(3) share buffers(#0-#L-1). Cells inputted through input ports(10-IN-1) are stored in the buffers with a round-robin method. The cells are temporarily stored in the buffer, and are transmitted to an output switch(2). The arbiter decides an outputting sequence of the cells according to time stamp values. The time stamp values are added to the cells. Destination information for designating output ports(O0-OM-1) of the output switch is added to the cells. The arbiter supplies the sequence to control registers(R0-RL-1) by using the time stamp values. The output switch transmits the cells stored in the buffers to the designated output ports by using information of the control registers.
