PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling image/audio output are provided to be capable of selectively controlling the output of image signals and audio signals upon visible grade limitation. CONSTITUTION: A method for controlling image/audio output establishes a program receivable grade and a selective visible signal by a user(11). Program grade data added to the received broadcasting signal are extracted(12). The program receivable grade set in the step(11) and the grade of the program grade data extracted in the step(12) is compared(13). As a result of the comparison, if the set program receivable grade is equal to or higher than the grade of the extracted program grade data, image and audio signals are normally output(14). If not, it is determined that the selective view signal is set or not(15). As a result of the determination in the step(15), if the selective view signal is set, only the selected signal is selectively output(16). If not, output of all the signals is cut off(17).
