摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a projection type video display device capable of securing brightness and picture quality, having high accuracy and making size small by arranging a phase difference film before and behind a polarization film and respectively sticking the polarization film and the phase difference film on a plate glass one side by one side. SOLUTION: The polarization film 20 is arranged on the incident side of a liquid crystal display element 17, and its transmission axis is at a parallel position with polarized light to be made incident on the element 17. However, in the case of making the polarized light different from polarized light arranged by a polarizing beam splitter incident on the element 17, the phase difference film 18 is arranged on the incident side of the film 20. In such a case, the film 20 and the film 18 are respectively stuck to the plate glass 19 one side by one side. The polarization film is arranged on the emitting side of the element 17, and the phase difference film is arranged on the emitting side of the polarization film when the polarized light is different from the polarized light to be made incident on the dichroic prism.
