PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a polarized light diffractive cholesteric liquid crystal film of which the diffracted rays themselves produce specified polarized light such as circularly polarized light or linearly polarized light. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a polarized light diffractive cholesteric liquid crystal film contains the first step to form a cholesteric liquid crystal film composed of a film material comprising a polymer liquid crystal with 1,000-100,000 weight-average molecular weight(Mw) measured with GPC (expressed in terms of polystyrene), <=5 molecular-weight distribution (My/Mn; Mn expresses the number- average molecular weight), 0.05-2.0 logarithmic viscosity number (0.5 g/dl concentration in the phenol-tetrachloroethane mixed solvent (60/40 weight ratio) at 30 deg.C), <=200 deg.C glass transition temperature (Tg) and >=40 deg.C transition temperature (Ti) from a liquid crystal phase to an isotropic phase as the indispensable constituent on an alignment supporting substrate, the second step to transfer a diffraction pattern of a diffraction element substrate to the surface of the cholesteric liquid crystal film so as to form a region exhibiting diffractiveness on a part of the film and the third step to release the alignment supporting substrate from the cholesteric liquid crystal film. |
