PURPOSE: A computer system having a user interface using a rotary switch and a method thereby relate to a more simplified computer system having an input device and its method in order to execute screen scrolls and application programs using a rotary switch. CONSTITUTION: A portable computer is composed of a hardware layer(300) and a software layer(400). The hardware layer(300) comprises a micro controller(310) connected with a touch pad(140), a couple of button switches(150,155) associated with the touch pad(140), a rotary switch(160) and a button switch(170) associated with the rotary switch(160). The software layer(400) comprises a device driver(410), a shell program(420) and a plurality of application programs(430). The micro controller(310) receives inputs from the touch pad(140), the button switches(150,155) associated with the touch pad(140), the rotary switch(160) and the button switch(170) associated with the rotary switch(160). The micro controller(310) generates corresponding data in response to the inputs and inputs the data to the device driver(410). |
