PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a liquid crystal panel in a single color and full colors to uniformly emit light with high luminance. SOLUTION: This semiconductor light emitting device is constituted of a light emitting element 1 using a compound semiconductor and a light distributing head 3 having a larger shape than that of the light emitting element 1 for fetching light from at least the main light extracting face of the light emitting element 1, and for distributing light to the destination of light emission. Then, the light distributing head 3 has a light transparent structure in which the light distributton almost in the normal direction of the main light extracting face of the light emitting element 1 can be set smaller than the light distribution to a direction almost orthogonally crossing the normal.
