PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To add diffractive performance to a part of the region in the plane of a cholesteric aligned film and to obtain a polarizing diffraction element to generate diffracted light showing property of circularly polarized light by forming a cholesteric alignment film on an alignment supporting substrate, transferring a diffraction pattern of a diffraction element substrate to the surface of the film and laminating the film face and a supporting substrate. SOLUTION: A cholesteric aligned film is formed on an alignment supporting substrate. As for the film material to form the cholesteric aligned film, a high mol.wt. liquid crystal, low mol.wt. liquid crystal or a mixture of these can be used. Then the diffraction pattern of a diffraction element substrate is transferred to the surface of the obtained cholesteric aligned film. The material of the diffraction substrate is preferably a film of film laminated body having a diffraction function. Then after the diffraction pattern is transferred, the surface of the cholesteric aligned film where the diffraction pattern is transferred is laminated with an adhesive layer to a supporting substrate. The adhesive is, for example, a photosetting or electron-setting reactive adhesive, hotmelt adhesive or the like. |
