PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain such a transmission type hologram that an illumination light source to regenerate a hologram can be disposed on the back side opposite to the observer's side and that a bright and clear image without color dispersion can be regenerated by disposing a semitransmitting reflection mirror or semitransmitting reflection layer on one side of a reflection type volume hologram. SOLUTION: A semitransmitting reflection mirror or semitransmitting reflection layer 10 is disposed attached to or with a little gap from a reflection type volume hologram 1' on the incident side of regenerating illumination light 5 of the hologram 1'. The regenerating illumination light 5 is reflected by the reflection mirror 10 and attenuated to enter the hologram 1' to generate diffracted light 6 in the opposite direction. By the diffracted light 6, a virtual image O' of the object is formed at the position of the object when the hologram is recorded. The diffracted light 6 is regularly reflected by the reflection mirror 10 and transmits the hologram 1' to exit as the observation light 7 to the opposite direction (transmission side) to the incident side. The image O" generated by the observation light 7 and observed by eyes E is a mirror image of the virtual image O' of the object reflected by the reflection mirror 10.
