PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make compatible both responsiveness on the side of a high speed and computation accuracy on the side of a low speed by selecting data having a distance deviation satisfying a necessary speed accuracy out of distance data stored in a memory means storing part distance data, and implementing computation of speed. SOLUTION: A distance signal R(t) from a distance measurement device 12 is taken in a sampler 13 by a signal generating for everyΔt sec. being a measurement time interval, and it is outputted as an (n) times distance R(n) to a computing part 15. The part 15 computes a speed V(nΔt) and output it based on stack data of R(n) to R(n-N+1), where N=1, 2,..., in a memory stack 16. By using the old data in the memory stack 16 without simply using a value obtained just before as distance data for the computation of speed, a ratio of distance error to a distance measurement error being the main cause of a speed accuracy error can be increased, and thereby an improvement in accuracy on the side of low speed is attained. On the side of high speed where a ratio between the distance deviation and the distance measurement error is large, the computation of speed can be implemented without using the old data.
