PURPOSE: A spacer structure of a field emission display and a forming method thereof are provided to reduce manpower for manufacturing an FED and cost by keeping cell gap with own's itself stiffness locating spacer at sidewall. CONSTITUTION: A spacer is located inside of a side wall and keeps a cell gap between two substrates. A spheric spacer is mixed and printed and fired at a sealant paste(W') for forming the side wall. The spacer is located inside of the side wall(W) which seals both substrate(P1, P2) and the cell gap between the substrates(P1, P2) is maintained by a stiffness of substrate itself that the four sides are fixed and supported. An only functional layer like as anode(A), cathode(C), emitter(E), gate(G) and phosphor(F) is existed, and a pitch between these is crowded fully without limitation of spacer(S) forming, and then the resolution of the FED is fully improved.
