N-methyl-2-(2-chloromethylphenyl)-2-oxoacetamide (I) is new. N-methyl-2-(2-chloromethylphenyl)-2-oxoacetamide of formula (I) is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for preparation of (I); (2) a method for preparing alpha-methoxyimino-phenylacetamides of formula (II) from (I); and (3) the intermediate imino ether of formula (III).
