PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive event recorder that can also record a video image before the occurrence of an event. SOLUTION: A video signal from a monitor camera 11 is always written in a semiconductor video recording section 15 within its storage capacity repetitively in an overwrite mode. When a fault sensor 12 generates a sensor signal denoting the occurrence of a fault, a control section 16 brings a magnetic tape video recorder 14 to a video recording mode and continues recording of the video signal for a preset time after that. When the recording is finished, the recording section 15 sends the recorded video signals to the magnetic tape video recorder 14 in the chronological order for recording. When the recording of all the video signals is finished, the control section 16 stops the magnetic tape video recorder 14 and restores the operation of the semiconductor video recording section 15 to a state before receiving the sensor signal. Since the magnetic tape video recorder 14 records video signals before and after the occurrence of the sensor signal and stops recording in other cases, wear of recording heads or the like is not caused.
