PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a refrigerant from being stored in a compressor of a stopping side when a single-stage compressor is operated in a refrigerator having a two-stage compressing mechanism. SOLUTION: The refrigerator having two-stage compressing mechanism 1 capable of conducting a two-stage compressing operation and a single-stage compressing operation comprises refrigerant inflow preventing means 14, 15 for preventing flowing of a refrigerant to a compressor 9 of a stopping side when a single stage-compressing operation is conducted. In this case, opening/ closing valves 14, 15 are respectively provided as the means 14, 15 at suction side piping 12 and discharge side piping 13 of the compressor 9 so as to prevent flowing of the refrigerant to the compressor 9 when the single-stage compressing operation is conducted.
