PURPOSE: A backward gearshift lever assembly is provided to easily assemble by simplifying a structure and to reduce a manufacturing cost by minimizing a number of components. CONSTITUTION: An installing bar(13) is fixed in a speed change gear case. An operating lever(15) is installed in the installing bar(13) to rotate around one shaft. An elastic member(17) is installed between the installing bar(13) and the operating lever(15). The operating lever(15) contains an inserting hole to receive a protruding portion of a backward gearshift lever and a groove to receive a backward idler gear. The operating lever(15) is rotated by the backward gearshift lever through the protruding portion to move the backward idler gear. In rotating the operating lever(15) around a hinge point, the elastic member(17) contains the maximum twisting elastic force when the both ends of the elastic member(17) are conformed to the rotating shaft. when both ends of the elastic member and a rotating shaft are deviated from a parallel position, the elastic member(17) is rotated easily.
