The invention relates to a guide roller for automated repositioning of a conveyor belt (4) that has moved off centre on the conveyor. The guide roller is provided with a central bearing, which allows the roller to be pressed downward on the end where the misaligned belt is. In addition, the roller is provided with a central bearing implemented by means of a pin (9), or the like, to allow the roller to pivot about a rotation axis (10) of the pin in the direction of the belt surface. Since the rotation axis is arranged at a specific angle, i.e. a guide angle (k), with respect to the belt, the roller also pivots in the direction of the belt surface at the same time when it is pressed downward. In prior art solutions the guide angle is 45 DEG , whereas according to the inventive idea the guide angle (k) is between 10 and 40 DEG . In addition, a preferred embodiment of the invention is based on the idea that the magnitude of the guide angle (k) can be adjusted within that range.
