<p>The invention concerns a device for a sealed abutting connection between two smooth pipes, comprising a sleeve provided with means for decreasing its diameter by the action of clamping means, and a sealing ring (24) designed to be arranged in the sleeve to enclose the ends of the tubes, said ring consisting of a flat strip wound on itself and having two longitudinal ends (26a, 26b) capable of being urged in contact when the sleeve is clamped around the tubes (20, 22). The first longitudinal end of the ring has a slot (28), whereas the second longitudinal end of the ring has the shape of a tongue (30) capable of being inserted in said slot. The width of the tongue and that of the slot decrease in the direction, along the strip, from the first longitudinal end towards the second longitudinal end. For a partial inserting position of the tongue into the slot, the two sides (30a, 30b) of the tongue are capable of being urged in contact with the two sides (28a, 28b) of the slot whereas the free end (30c) of the tongue remains spaced apart from the base (28c) of the slot, and from that position, the tongue is capable of penetrating further into the slot under the clamping effect.</p> |
