The system has telescopically closing and opening extension elements (30-39), which are coupled using one or more toothed rods (41-44). All but one (44) of the toothed rods are each connected one or more elements to be coupled, and move with the elements, while the remaining rod is stationary. The toothed rods engage a freely-rotating gear arrangement (50), to extend or close the system.
