PURPOSE: A railway crossing protecting system is provided to prevent an accident at a railway crossing by providing a signal indicative of an emergent situation to an engine man so as to stop a running of a train automatically. CONSTITUTION: In a railway crossing protecting system, first to fourth crossing gates(181-184) are installed at both sides of a road with a railroad interposed. First to fourth position detectors(121-124) are installed at ends of interrupting summits, respectively. A first vehicle detector(111) and a second vehicle detector(112) are installed at a front part of the railway crossing so as to be spaced apart. A character display device(191) and a voice guide device(192) are installed at a right side of a walking direction of a passenger. Emergency switches are installed at both sides of the railway crossing, and an infrared ray camera(131a) and an infrared ray lighting are installed over the center of the railway crossing. A receiver(210), an alarm confirming switch(220) and a vehicle detector(230) are connected to signal inputs of a micro computer(240). A gate state display part(250), an obstacle state display part(260) and an alarm part(270) are connected to signal outputs of the micro computer(240), to which a data storing part(290) is connected.
